PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
“Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.” – Albert Einstein
It seems that at the New Year we should take a deep breath and do something to start afresh. Think of all the things I might have done last year–why didn’t I get them accomplished? How can I make a new start and get it right this time? Resolutions? Lists?
What will work? But wait! Did I do last year incorrectly? Were my expectations too high when I set forth my New Year’s plan last year? Why do we do this to ourselves? Who or what is it we really expect of ourselves?
When I was a young mother, I used to look at other women and wonder why THEY were so good at what they did and why I was simply unable to measure up. Beth was a wonderful gardener and canner. MaryAnn was a terrific cook and housekeeper–ever the hostess with her home looking like it was ready to be photographed for a magazine spread. And of course there was Sandy whose Bible Study lessons were always completed and thoughtful.
What is WRONG with me I fretted? I can’t do that? Well of course not. I was just one person with my own skill set–not three rolled into one!
All of this to say–do what is right for you. Make a resolution if you want, choose a theme word for the year if that is what works for you, or just move on to the next day doing what is right for the moment.
I like Einstein’s reasoned approach. It absorbs lessons from the past, makes the best of the moment, and plans for the future.
Here at the Skagit Valley Weavers’ Guild we are indeed planning for the future. We have a great lineup of programs in the coming months as well as workshops and study groups.(Check out the website Skagitweaversguild.org for what is happening).
IF you haven’t signed up for Rosalie Neilson’s workshop on Rep Weave (February 26,27,28) NOW is the time. We will be opening it up to non guild members early in January.
The Executive Committee will be meeting January 23, at 10:30am to continue working on Guild business for 2025. This is an open meeting and I encourage you to attend. Come put your two cents worth into the direction of the Guild for the future. (Please RSVP to me if you plan to attend.) If you cannot attend but have something to add we would appreciate hearing your ideas. You can email, text, or call me any time–I’m pretty good at responding.
I hope to see you at the meeting on January 4.
